Our students come from a variety educational environments and settings, and they have used AoPS classes in the following two ways:
- as an extracurricular class, with no concern for receiving school credit, or
- in place of a class or subject they would have otherwise taken at a traditional school or homeschool setting.
We've noted special considerations below for students using AoPS classes for credit within various academic settings.
On this page
Traditional Schooling (Public or Private)
The most important step in getting credit is to talk to your school counselor or academic advisor. Someone at your school is in charge of helping you build a path to graduation that is best for you. While some schools will let you opt out of courses in favor of AoPS courses (e.g., taking AoPS Introduction to Algebra A so that you would not have to take Algebra 1 at your school, etc.), your "home" institution is ultimately responsible for granting credit.
Whether you take an AoPS course in place of or in addition to a class at your school, it is entirely up to your individual school to decide whether or not they will award credit for our courses. We've outlined some helpful resources below. If you are advocating for yourself or your child in one of these circumstances, we encourage you to email studentservices@aops.com. Our Student Services Specialists will be glad to assist you in any way that we can.
If you're working with your school to replace a class that you would have otherwise taken in school, the Course Syllabi can be helpful to determine the equivalent class at your school.
If covering Common Core State Standards is important to your school, please look over our Common Core State Standards page.

If your school will be paying for the class and/or books, please look over our Using Institutional Funds information page.
We can assign grades or provide other documentation at the end of Subject courses, upon request. If you'll be requesting a grade from AoPS at the end of a course, you can read more about assessment in our online courses on this page.
If your school would like for a designated staff member (such as a teacher, administrator, or counselor) to be able to monitor your progress, your parent or guardian can grant permission for them to track student progress.
Parent Choice Charter School Networks
Our students in homeschooling charter school networks have typically used AoPS as a "service vendor," which means that we provide the student's math, science, or computer science instruction and evaluation.
You can learn more about what it means to be a service vendor, as well as view the list of charter schools for whom we are an Approved Service Vendor, on this page.
If you'll be using institutional (charter school) funds to pay for our courses or books, please look over our Using Institutional Funds information page.

Homeschooling
Our homeschooled students have typically used AoPS as their math, science, or computer science courses for the semester, year, or summer.

If you are homeschooling through a charter school network, please review the Parent Choice Charter School Networks information above.
Many of our homeschool families issue their own transcripts to colleges. For example, families in California that have filed a Private School Affidavit (PSA) are able to produce official transcripts on behalf of their students. Although rules vary from state to state, families that issue their own offical transcripts will generally be able to list AoPS courses alongside the student's other coursework. Make sure to keep copies of all grading documents on hand in case the college reaches out for additional information.
